<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Council Worksession <br />October 3, 2017 <br />5:00 pm <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Valerie Johnson <br /> Councilmember Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Brian Strub <br /> Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Mary Burg <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter, Devin Massopust <br /> <br />Guests in Attendance: <br /> <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson congratulated Councilmember Strub for completing the Twin Cities Marathon. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson commented on the recent events that occurred in Las Vegas, Nevada and commended all of the <br />Public Safety Officers for their quick response. <br /> <br />Strategic Priorities Report <br />Lotter commented on the Council’s strategic priorities report. He noted this was the fourth time the Council <br />and staff had completed this document. He described how the priorities have been modified over time in order <br />to meet the Council’s directives. He discussed how he was working to cultivate employees from within for <br />advancement. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strub understood that internal employees may not always be the best candidate for the <br />position and this did not reflect poorly on the organization. <br /> <br />Massopust reviewed each of the five strategic priorities in detail with the Council along with the desired KPI’s. <br />He anticipated that the City’s expanded license bureau would assist in increasing revenues. He described how <br />the City’s newsletter was being revamped in order to improve communication with the public. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson stated she looked forward to seeing the City’s newsletter revamped in order to keep the public <br />engaged. She explained she was pleased local businesses were reaching out to the City in order to remain in <br />the community. She looked forward to the Council discussing how the Korean Church property would be <br />redeveloped. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strub wanted to be assured that the Council was addressing its housing stock in order to keep <br />and attract the next generation of homeowners. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson commented on how gateway signs would assist the City in creating a sense of place. She <br />believed the Council needed to further address this item, along with the City’s logo. She stated the Council <br />would also have to determine what type of logo or symbol would be placed on the MnDOT sound walls. <br />
