10
VII. VOLUNTEER SERVICES

This section contains information on our various volunteer organizations related to Public
Safety. This includes the activities of the Public Safety Commission, Police Reserves,
Police Explorers, and Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS).

On Sunday, March 19, the Police Reserves held their monthly meeting. Reserve Liaison
Officer Matt Farmer led the meeting and introduced Officer Ian Craig as the new
assistant Liaison Officer. The two then facilitated dialog about using whatever talents
and interests people have to make not just the Police Reserves better, but also improve
the NBDPS and City of New Brighton (performing volunteer service hours in other ways
than just ride-a-longs and attending details; this could include using tech skills to update
operations, doing a fundraiser, participating in a project to improve the aesthetics of the
City, etc.). For training, the group discussed radio operations, vehicle
impoundments/vehicle searches/associated tasks and paperwork, and officer safety
considerations.

On March 18, the Police Explorer’s participated in the St. Paul Police Chief’s Cup
Explorer Competition.

During the month of March, the Explorers conducted two meetings.

On March 13, the Reserve Unit assisted the Fire Department with Emergency Medical
Responder Refresher training.

On March 19, Officer Farmer conducted his monthly meeting with the Reserve unit.

VIII.
