3
Public Safety responded to two fire incidents within about 5 minutes of each other. The
first was a vehicle with a leaking gas tank in the parking lot of Lakeside Homes. The
second involved a fire inside a dryer at the Ultra Wash Laundromat on Silver Lake Road
at Silver Lane. Everyone inside the business was able to safely evacuate. Fire crews
extinguished the smoldering flames inside the dryer and removed the material that had
been on fire. A large amount of smoke had to be ventilated from the structure and crews
accessed the roof to check for extension.

Officers responded to weapons complaint at Long Lake Regional Park. Dispatch advised
there was a subject in parking lot with a knife. Officers located a 23 year old New
Brighton resident holding a large knife. She began walking towards officers while
disregarding their commands to drop the knife. The female was attempting to have the
police shoot her in an effort to commit suicide. On scene officers were able to distract
the female long enough for Officer Farmer to sneak up behind her and place her in a bear
hug. The female was brought to the ground. The female was intoxicated and sent to the
hospital on a psych hold.

On July 14th, officers were dispatched on a noise complaint. Upon arrival, squads located
a 27 year old New Brighton man in a stolen vehicle and intoxicated. He ended up being
arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and for 3rd degree DWI.

On July 14th, Officers took a report of a violation of a court order. After clearing the call,
officers were dispatched back to the address stating the suspect and some family
members were now on scene. Upon arrival, officers attempted to control the situation but
the 19 year old suspect from Minneapolis fled on foot. Officers were able to take the
suspect into custody after the suspect attempted to assault the officers with a large brick.
The suspect was holding a large brick threatening to throw at officers and yelling for
officers to shoot him. The suspect was tasered as he threw the brick at officers. The
suspect was taken into custody and booked at LEC for violation of the court order and 4th
Degree Assault on a Police Officer.
