6 <br />III. TRAFFIC SAFETY <br /> <br />The following information contains summaries of significant traffic safety and traffic <br />enforcement incidents during the month. <br /> <br />On July 1st, Officer Amberg stops a vehicle for moving and traffic violations. The driver, <br />a 44 year old female from New Brighton, was displaying signs of impairment. She <br />claims she had only two beers. She fails field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test. <br />She is arrested and is given a breath test which reveals a BAC of .11. She was booked on <br />a 4th degree DWI. <br /> <br />On July 4th, a citizen called in about a possible impaired driver. Officer Kostohryz <br />responded. Upon arriving in the area, Officer Kostohryz’s squad was nearly struck by the <br />impaired driver. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 27 year old New Brighton <br />man, showed signs of impairment and was arrested. The driver gave a breath sample <br />which showed a BAC of .25. The party was booked for a 3rd degree DWI. <br /> <br />On July 5th, squads responded to assist a Three Rivers Parks officer on a traffic stop on <br />Silver Lake Rd near I-694. The male passenger arrested for drug possession by Three <br />Rivers Parks. The female driver (a 46 year old New Brighton resident) was arrested for <br />drug DWI by New Brighton. A search warrant was written and signed. A blood sample <br />was obtained. The female was booked for 3rd degree DWI due to one prior within ten <br />years. <br /> <br />On July 7th, Officer Amberg stops a vehicle for moving and equipment violations. The <br />driver, a 27 year old New Brighton resident, appeared impaired. The driver failed field <br />sobriety tests. Drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle. The driver was arrested for <br />DWI and his vehicle was towed. A search warrant was written for driver and a sample <br />was taken. The driver cited and booked for DWI. <br /> <br />Saint Paul Police hosted the TZD Hi-Viz DWI Saturation on Saturday, July 15, 2017 <br />from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Eight overtime funded officers and two volunteer reserve officers <br />focused on Snelling Ave, Dale St and Hwy 94 in conjunction with Rondo Days festivities <br />and the O’Reilly Auto Parts Street Machine Summer Nationals Car Show at the <br />Fairgrounds that yielded the following: <br /> <br />• 92 traffic stops <br />• 8 people taken to jail <br />• 8 DWI arrests <br />• 10 drivers cited for DAR/DAS <br />• 6 vehicles towed <br /> <br />Notes: A Ramsey County deputy cited a driver for speeding that was traveling in excess <br />of 100 mph in a 55 mph zone. SPPD officer arrested a driver for DWI after they crashed <br />into a parked car and a chain link fence. WBLPD officer arrested an impaired driver with <br />a child in the car which enhanced the charges to 2nd Degree Gross Misdemeanor DWI <br />for child endangerment. <br /> <br />
