<br /> <br />Director Paetznick reported the City Council will have some follow-up discussion and questions <br />and then this will go to Council for their approval. <br /> <br />Department Reports <br />A. Allina Health – Dave Matteson <br />Mr. Dave Matteson, Allina Health, reported October was a rough month for the EMS world with <br />the death of an EMT from Health East and the death of a former co-worker. <br /> <br />October was a busy month in New Brighton. Allina responded to 193 calls; 127 were emergent <br />calls, with an average response time of 7:34. Allina is hiring five new supervisors to be able to <br />provide 24-hour supervisory coverage. Allina will be getting 10 new ambulances in 2018 and <br />they will all be the new ambulance style. <br /> <br />Commissioner Malone inquired how Allina cares for their employees after intense events. Mr. <br />Matteson stated Allina has a full-time Chaplain and they hold critical incident debriefings. The <br />Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to their employees and supervisors will check <br />in with employees after intense events. <br /> <br />B. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br /> <br />Commissioner Allen noted the VIPS held their monthly meeting with Officer Krebsbach on <br />October 24, with 20 people attending. The VIPS are working on Santa Cop planning and four <br />VIPS did graffiti cover-up. <br /> <br />The next Blood Drive is scheduled for Thursday, November 16. <br /> <br />The VIPS meet the last Thursday of the month at 5:15 pm. <br /> <br />C. Public Safety Update – Director Paetznick <br /> <br />Director Paetznick noted the following items: <br />o Our newest officer, Anthony Semanko, started work on October 16. <br />o Officer Tom Nerison left our agency on October 18 to go work for the Airport Police <br />Department. We are backgrounding someone now for this open police officer position. <br />o The Fire Division has responded to multiple structure fires; including two arson fires with <br />both incidents resulting in an arrest. <br />o The Fire Department Open House was on October 30. <br />o Police officers, supervisors, and command staff attended Procedural Justice training over <br />a 3-day period in November. <br />o Officer Farmer will be recognized at tomorrow’s Council meeting for his 6 th “Hat Trick” <br />award. <br />o The Faith Community Partnership group met last week at St. John’s. We continue to <br />work to create a Community Chaplain group. <br />o Our agency staffing plan for the Super Bowl has been submitted to Minneapolis PD; 15 <br />officers have committed to work during the Super Bowl. <br />
