4

Commissioner Justin also stated that he was hesitant about Hidden Oaks
because it still has 5 years of life left in it. With pickleball being new, and
possibly a fad, he would hate to see that much money go into something
we are not yet sure of. He is aware that the Silver Oaks neighborhood
stated they would rather keep the tennis court, rather than replace it with
pickleball.

Assistant Parks and Recreation Director, Jason Hicks, stated the Silver
Oaks neighborhood did state they wanted the tennis court to remain there.
The Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission expressed that
tennis is the way they wanted to go at Silver Oaks.

Chair Kunesh-Podein inquired about facilities at Hidden Oaks. Jason Hicks,
Assistant Parks and Recreation Director stated the building was
demolished in 2014.

Commissioner McEathron also recommended that the Hidden Oaks courts
be kept as is for the next 5 years or until there is funding available. Then
the discussion can take place if it should be converted to pickleball courts.

Parks Superintendent Chris Wolla, stated both Silver Oaks and Hidden
Oaks have summer baseball or soccer games at the parks so parking will
also be used for those activities in the evenings. He also mentioned that
he does not believe there would be room for 3 pickleball courts at Silver
Oaks because of the steep slope and the parking lot right next to it.

Commissioner Brunell stated he did not measure, but was thinking that the
pickleball court orientation could be perpendicular to the street and by
changing the orientation, may be able to get three courts in.

Fields inquired about how many pickleball courts the community requested
or needed.

Assistant Director, Jason Hicks stated that the demand is out there. The
more courts we can add, the more players you will have. At the NBCC
gym we have 3 courts on Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays and there are
always people waiting to play.

Chair Kunesh-Podein asked how difficult it would be to find the additional
funds? Assistant Director, Jason Hicks stated he did not know. Sources
have not yet been identified. The Department is hoping to at least get this
project started by summer.

Commissioner Quade stated that it seems to be popular. There are no
restrooms at Hidden Oaks. Assistant Director Jason Hicks stated there are
portable toilets there in the summer.
