5

Commissioner Justin felt that Silver Oak residents would be surprised if
Pickleball were put there because they had indicated through a survey that
they wanted to keep the tennis court. If the Hidden Oaks courts were just
converted to pickleball courts using the cheapest means, we could test that
site with 4 courts to see if the demand is there and then if it is, in 2022, you
could do the full restoration and make the 6 courts there. Hesitate to go
$205,000 to find out in a few years that it is not being used.

Assistant Director Jason Hicks stated we could purchase portable nets on
wheels and spend about $100 each but if you recall, the pickleball
enthusiasts did not want to go that route. They much preferred the
permanent nets.

MOTION BY COMMISSIONER JUSTIN, SECONDED BY
COMMISSIONER EISCHEN, TO ASK STAFF TO RECEIVE COST
ESTIMATES ON TWO OPTIONS AT THE HIDDEN OAKS LOCATION.
OPTION A TO RETROFIT THE EXISTING SURFACE TO HAVE
PERMANENT PICKLEBALL COURTS WITH PERMANENT NETS AND
LINES AND OPTION B DOING PERMANENT LINES BUT USING
TEMPORARY NETS. MOTION CARRIED.

MOTION BY COMMISSIONER BRUNELL, SECONDED BY
COMMISSIONER MCEATHERON, TO RECEIVE COST ESTIMATES FOR
A TENNIS COURT WITH PORTABLE NETS FOR PICKLEBALL AND
ALSO A COST ESTIMATE FOR PERMANENT PICKLEBALL COURTS AT
SILVER OAKS. MOTION CARRIED.

Commissioner Justin stated he has a concern because this has already
been addressed with the neighborhood and the recommendation was to
keep the tennis court at Silver Oaks. There was some interest from
pickleball folks but tennis was the recommendation. So the neighborhood
should be notified if there will not be a tennis court there because that is
what they are expecting. He is not adverse to receiving a cost estimate. If a
pickleball court is going to go in, then it should be addressed with the
neighborhood.

Commissioner Parker commented that if that area does not get used for
the purpose of tennis or pickleball, that perhaps it could be used for roller
hockey for 2 on 2 play. The dimensions for roller hockey would be pretty
similar to tennis.

VII. Announcements
A. Council Report – Council Member Burg
There was a work session about Pickleball. That discussion was very
important.
Last night honored Stockyard Days volunteers, they bring in about
15,000 people during that celebration. Planning now for the next one in
August.
Taking applications now for all Commissions. Thanked Mary Kunesh-
Podein and Adam Parker who have served and do not plan to be back.
