6

The work you do is very important and an asset to the Council. Thank
you for your service. There are great applications this year.
Comprehensive Plan is due every 10 years. There was a meeting at
Freedom and one coming up on March 23 at Hansen.
Project came to Council regarding Eurasian milfoil and curly leaf pond
weed in Long Lake. Long Lake Homeowners are seeking funds but
currently there are no funds. Mayor met with Ramsey County Rep. and
others. City decided to give $15,000 investment this year. This will not
eradicate the problem, but next year may cost less because it will be
somewhat under control. Homeowner Association group will also
contribute toward this. Chair Kunesh-Podein stated she did just sign a
bill to approve that and it is important to contact legislators to make it
happen.
Will have a few new commissioners joining you in the next couple of
months.
B. Chair Updates
Chair Kunesh-Podein stated this is her last meeting and it has been a real
pleasure to be on this Commission. She was at the NBCC on Sunday and
saw Pat Tuma there. She was manually entering data into the new software
system. Assistant Director Hicks commented that Pat Tuma has spent a ton
of time on this project and has done a wonderful job helping to change over
our software from the old Class system to the new MaxGalaxy software
preparing us for the “go live” date. Many other staff people have helped as
well. There was over 124 hours of training in February and we did go live two
days ago and so far no major disruption in service.
C. Lions Park Focus Group Update – Commissioner Stenglein
Parks Superintendent Chris Wolla stated on Feb 15 there was a meeting.
Four playground vendors came in to present different designs and options.
We were able to see pictures of the options and it was a very tough decisi on
for the group. The group asked staff to see if they could get more land in
order to get the playground they want. Staff is in discussion about that. A
vendor has not yet been selected, but if the extra land and a little extra
funding are available, we can move forward. A playground has not yet been
chosen, but saw some great designs. Their goal is to make it a very unique
park. The hope is to make it a “poured-in place surfacing” which makes it
accessible for everyone. It is unique and the group wants to make the right
decision. It is probably the last spot available for a park in New Brighton. The
group wWill meet again the 2nd or 3rd Wed. in March. The hope is to install the
playground in June of this year. The residents who are part of the task force
decided it would be great to do the install as a community build. We will hire
a supervisor from the playground vendor. Seven people from the
neighborhood are on the Task Force.

D. Commission Reports on Parks

Driftwood: Parker. Looks clean, in good shape.
Freedom: Brunell. River birch branch over left field fence. Neighbors
concerned about work being done at Hansen Park. The pile of dirt
obstructs the view of the pond. Chris Wolla stated it is not complete.
Council Member Burg stated it will compress down at least 30%. In two
