4

 Potential Funding
o $72,600 Pavement Management Plan

Mark Reker, 2950 18th Street, a pickleball player.
 He stated he spoke at the November meeting.
 At Hidden Oaks, you could have about 2,500 -3,500 park visits over the
summer months. He could not think of another activity that would draw
that many.
 Shoreview now has 200-250 members over there. There is a nominal fee
of $15 to belong to the club. This helps Shoreview maintain courts. Used
for a gate, pickle balls, social event.
 Pickleball is not going away. Pickleball is one of the fastest growing
recreational activities in the U.S. and beyond. It usually starts at 8am and
runs until noon. If you had 24 on the 6 courts at Hidden Oaks, you may
have another 10 waiting to play. At Shoreview, sometimes people leave
because they do not want to wait to play. You already have pickleball
players at the New Brighton Community Center. If you have outdoor
courts, they will play outdoors.
 If tennis players miss the courts at Hidden Oaks, there are tennis courts a
few blocks away at Freedom Park.
 Pickleball is a bit noisier than tennis. Houses are not all that close by
Hidden Oaks.
 North and east sides have a tree buffer. There are new paddles out now
that can control the noise better.
 The current tennis courts at Hidden Oaks are not much better than Silver
Oaks. There are cracks in them. It will probably need replacement before
2022 from what he has seen.
 The fence is in good shape, so just resurfacing the top 1 or 2 inches
should do it.

Acting Director Hicks stated the fence can remain if courts are redone, but we
may need to move or add a gate or two.

Dave Haas, 1111 19th Ave SW, pickleball player, commented:
 There are a limited number of pickleball hours at the New Brighton
Community Center. Currently pickleball play is Tuesday and Thursday
afternoons and a limited time on Friday mornings. If there was outdoor
play, it would eliminate some of the numbers at New Brighton Community
Center and it would give players more times to play.
 High Schools and Middle Schools are starting to play in the schools so it is
not just older folks. That is another reason to consider adding more
pickleball courts outside.

Resident, Mark Reker, stated generally the courts are not reserved for
individuals. Times are designated and that is when people show up. He has 40-
50 people interested already without really trying to put a list together. Pickleball
courts should be placed north and south so you don’t have to deal with the sun
issue. So have three courts at Silver Oaks probably would not be a good idea if
you had to turn them. A minimum of 4 courts, to draw enough of a crowd, is his
