4

played and kids in the playground. Looked at the completed scout project
and it looks really good. The project made a substantial difference to how
the park feels. The park looks great.
Freedom: Brunell. No report.
Hansen: Fields. No report.
Hidden Oaks: Quade. Acting Director Hicks stated he did receive e-mail
from Commissioner Quade, but he forgot to bring it.
Innsbruck: Axberg. There has been graffiti on the playground (tunnel
piece) and missing shingles on the roof. There was soccer practice and
kids playing on the playground. Soccer field boundaries were marked.
Field is heavily used.
Meadow Wood: Eischen. Couple of lights are burned out on the north side
next to the trail that enters the park. The park looks great. People are out
enjoying it. It gets dark earlier so the lights are important.
Silver Oaks/Totem Pole: Justin. Visited both parks yesterday. It was the
first time that no one was at either of the parks. It was about 4:30pm.
Silver Oaks retaining wall needs to be looked at. The park looks good.
Had the Mites soccer goals there. Tennis court is an ongoing issue. As he
was leaving someone was coming on to use the basketball court. Fencing
should be looked at before the next baseball season. There is a tree
growing out of the gutter. Don’t want it to get too big! Te nnis courts are
being used more.
Sunny Square/Vermont: McEathron. Looked at Vermont. It was quiet as
usual. Looks like some brush had been cleared out. It definitely cleaned it
up. Sunny Square looked good. Nothing stood out as needing attention.
Parks Superintendent Chris Wolla commented that the maintenance crew
did take out some trees along the property. It did make a big improvement
on that property.
Veterans: No report.
D. Lions Park Playground
Acting Director Hicks stated the playground has been ordered and temporary
delivery date is September 18. A Community build is scheduled for
September 25th. Additional donations have been received from TUV SUD.
For an additional $1,000. Ryan Companies also donated $1,000 for that
playground as well. Support continues to come in from the community.
E. Department Happenings / upcoming events
Acting Director Jason Hicks introduced the incoming Director Jennifer
Fink. Future Director Fink comes from Ramsey County. September
18th will be her first day. You will be seeing Director Fink more in the
next several months.
PREC has been talking about dog parks and was wondering if we
could partner with Ramsey County. Ramsey County will be hosting a
series of listening events and one will be hosted here in New Brighton
on October 4th, room 224 in the New Brighton Community Center. It
will be right before the PREC meeting, at 5:30 pm. They will listen to
what the public would like. Although Long Lake Park may not be the
best site for a dog park, there may be other space in New Brighton.
Thrive Expo is coming up for the senior population, is September 14th,
1-3:30pm. There are many exhibitors and sit down sessions.
Demolition of the Eagles Nest started yesterday. Next step is to install
