<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Council Worksession <br />February 13, 2018 <br />5:00 pm <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Valerie Johnson <br /> Councilmember Graeme Allen <br /> Councilmember Mary Burg <br /> Councilmember Emily Dunsworth <br /> Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter, Terri Spangrud <br /> <br />Guests in Attendance: Kelly Frush, Mike Santi, Rachel Luong, Cling Kuipers, and Matthew Palmeri <br /> <br />Commission Interviews <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson welcomed Kelly Frush. She asked Kelly to tell the Council a little bit about herself and her <br />experiences in the community. <br /> <br />Kelly Frush stated she was a technical writer at Medtronic and has worked there for six years. Prior to that Ms. <br />Frush worked at Siemans. She noted she got her education at the U of M. She explained she moved to the <br />metro area from Pine River in northern Minnesota. She indicated she has served as an election judge and <br />stated she moved to New Brighton in 2011. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dunsworth asked why she had decided to apply to serve on a City Commission. <br /> <br />Ms. Frush commented she has been wanting to get involved in the community for some time but has been <br />finishing her masters and had a baby last year. She stated she was available now to serve the community. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen asked why she would be a good person to represent the community and advise the City <br />Council. <br /> <br />Ms. Frush stated she was very organized and analytical. She explained she has learned these values on the job <br />at Medtronics and was a positive person to work with. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg asked what the three most important responsibilities a commission member had to the <br />community. <br /> <br />Ms. Frush believed serving the community, listening to what the community wants and understanding what the <br />needs were. She stated coming up with a plan to fulfill these needs would also be important. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked how she would respond if a member of the community were to contact her <br />expressing opposition to an item being addressed by your commission. <br /> <br />Ms. Frush stated she would try to find out why they were opposed, try to understand the reasons driving their
