Brighton flushed the entire system of groundwater and shut off the use of our deep wells. New Brighton has used
only Minneapolis water since July of 2016.

City Project 15-13 WTP 3 and 4 Backwash Reclamation and Vessel 3A Rehabilitation includes removal of the
existing media, blasting of the entire vessel interior (and disturbed portion of the exterior), new filter under drain,
new filter media, installation of welded baffle walls, and new paint coatings. The project also includes the
installation of a water reclamation system in WTP 3. This reclamation system will ultimately save the City money,
and not waste as much water to the environment thus eliminating the permit requirements for discharge monitoring.

Costs and Funding: The total cost of the backwash project will be funded from Fund 701 – Water Improvement
Fund. The cost of the filter rehab/radium removal project will be broken down between Fund 701 and Fund 206
(radium related costs).

_____________________________
Craig G.
