July 24, 2018 Page 6 of 7 <br />commented a web-based service was used to assist with the logo contest and noted 300 designs <br />were submitted. He reported staff then reviewed the submittals and narrowed down the <br />designs. He explained the final logo would be rolled out in the City over time and would be <br />used on the 35W sound walls. He estimated the City had spent only $1,500 on the new logo <br />design to date. <br />Councilmember Allen discussed the comments he received from the public regarding the new <br />logo. He indicated he appreciated the colors in the new logo options. <br />Councilmember Dunsworth explained she supported the Council moving forward with a new <br />logo as it would assist in rebranding the City. She stated she was excited to see how this new <br />logo would look in and around the City. <br />Mayor Johnson commented the old logo served the City well. She believed that the new logo <br />was fresh and vibrant while also providing a sense of optimism. She anticipated the new logo <br />would be more identifiable. She indicated she also appreciated the new tagline. <br />Councilmember Burg supported the Council moving forward with Option #2. <br /> <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Burg, seconded by Councilmember Allen to direct staff to proceed with <br />Option #2 for the new logo for the City of New Brighton. <br /> <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br /> <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter thanked the Council for supporting the restructuring of the IT department. <br />He explained this department has been evolving in recent years and he believed the new IT <br />members would be a great asset to the City. He reported he would be attending a Metro Area <br />Water Supply Committee meeting on Tuesday, July 25th in St. Paul. He stated he was asked to <br />serve on a Pension Committee for the League of Minnesota Cities. He provided further <br />comment on how the City funds the Fire Relief Pension, noting this was not funded by <br />taxpayer dollars. He explained municipal contributions are only made if the fund were to <br />become underfunded and this has not been done for the past eight years. He described why the <br />Council has to make a formal vote in order for an increase to be made to the Fire Relief <br />Pension. <br /> <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen stated he was looking forward to Stockyard Days. He encouraged the <br />public to participate in the numerous events being planned. He noted the EDC met on <br />Wednesday, July 11th and discussed the New Brighton Exchange e-newsletter. He commented <br />further on how the value of NBE has increased over the years as this site has developed. <br /> <br />Emily Dunsworth <br />Councilmember Dunsworth encouraged the public to participate in National Night Out on <br />Tuesday, August 7th. She reported residents could register their block parties with the City on <br />the City’s website. She discussed the events that would occur at the upcoming Farmer’s <br />Market.
