TRAFFIC SAFETY <br /> <br />The following information contains summaries of significant traffic safety and traffic <br />enforcement incidents during the month. <br /> <br />Maplewood Police hosted the TZD Hi-Viz DWI Saturation on Friday, January 12, 2018 <br />from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Nine overtime funded officers and five volunteer reserve officers <br />focused their efforts on White Bear Ave and Hwy 36 with the following results: <br /> <br />• 92 traffic stops <br />• 5 people taken to jail <br />• 3 DWI arrests <br />• 4 drivers cited for DAR/DAS <br />• 4 vehicles towed <br /> <br />Notes: Chilly night with actual temperature below zero for the entire shift. MVPD <br />officer arrested a driver for his 5th DWI since 2007, one of which was a 1st Degree DWI <br />in South Dakota. The driver blew .19 on the DMT breath test and his 2015 Jeep Grand <br />Cherokee was held for forfeiture. <br /> <br />New Brighton hosted a DWI Saturation on Saturday, January 20, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. <br />Nine overtime funded officers and four volunteer reserve officers focused their efforts on <br />Silver Lake Road, Old Hwy 8 and Hwy 35W that yielded the following results: <br /> <br /> 110 traffic stops <br /> 9 people taken to jail <br /> 8 DWI arrests <br /> 8 drivers cited for DAR/DAS <br /> 8 vehicles towed <br /> <br />Notes: A Ramsey County deputy stopped a car for an improper turn and the driver failed <br />SFST’s (Standardized Field Sobriety Test) and blew .20 AC on the PBT. A fully loaded <br />.40 cal handgun was located on the driver side floor board during a search of the vehicle <br />prior to it being towed. The driver was booked for 3rd Degree DWI Test Refusal, <br />Carrying/Possessing a Pistol without a Permit and Carrying/Possessing a Pistol While <br />Under the Influence of Alcohol.
