14 <br />The New Brighton Explorers attended and assisted in National Night Out, a Kidde <br />Parade, the Stockyard Days Parade and Stockyards Days in Long Lake Regional Park. <br /> <br />VIII. HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT <br /> <br />This section will review ongoing activities for homeland security and emergency <br />management. This includes the activities of the New Brighton Community Emergency <br />Response Teams (CERT). <br /> <br />Public Safety received a thank-you message from HSEM for providing space in the <br />Public Safety Center training room. “On behalf of EPA and myself, thank you again for <br />helping us with all of the logistics for the two seminars yesterday. This is the first time <br />that these particular seminars were presented in the United States and everything went <br />well.” <br /> <br />IX. TRAINING <br /> <br />This section will review the training activities of our Public Safety personnel for the <br />month. <br /> <br />Firearms Instructor, Sergeant Ed Sypniewski, provided monthly training for all sworn <br />peace officers in the Public Safety Center range with a focus on stoppages and <br />malfunctions. <br /> <br />On August 22nd, the North Suburban Haz-Mat Team conducted its monthly training at the <br />former New Brighton Elementary School site. Public Safety collaborated with the Public <br />Works Water Department and simulated an inadvertent mixing of two chemicals to create <br />chlorine gas. <br /> <br />Sgt. Emerson arranged to have our City Prosecutor attend a roll call and speak on current <br />issues related to several issues. <br /> <br />Officer Boyd attended a class on Cell Phone Forensics presented by the BCA. <br /> <br />X. OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE <br /> <br />This section will review the ongoing administrative issues and meetings during the <br />month. This includes meetings, policy issues, ordinance changes, and personnel issues. <br />It also includes meetings of a county wide, regional, and/or statewide basis on public <br />safety related issues. <br /> <br />Public Safety received notice this week that we are due again for the audit of our criminal <br />justice information systems by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. This <br />occurs every three years to assure agency compliance for all security requirements, <br />documentation, training, and other laws & regulations related to the databases and <br />network connections that we maintain with and through the BCA to access this sensitive <br />information. Office Supervisor Julie Forbord is the lead for this project.
