Assistant Director of
Community Assets and Development Gozola reported this was the case and noted this was per
the Public Safety Departments request. Paul Aplikowski, school representative, reported the
gates would not be locked at any time as it was the school’s intent to have the space open to the
public during the summer and on the weekends.
Commissioner Frischman stated she was pleased the bus drop off and parent drop off areas
would be separated.
Motion by Commissioner Frischman, seconded by Commissioner McQuillan to close the Public
Hearing.
Approved 5-0.

Councilmember Jacobsen asked if there would be any changes to the lighting on the site.
Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola reviewed the changes to the
lighting plan with the Commission.
Motion by Commissioner McQuillan, seconded by Commissioner Enanaa to approve staff
recommendation.
Approved 5-0.

2) Variance: Application from Scott Gordhamer seeking a 12.4-foot variance from the required 30-
foot front yard setback in the R-1 zoning district to expand the width of an existing legal
nonconforming garage. At 1820 Skyhigh Drive – PID 31-30-23-14-0006.
Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola reported Scott Gordhamer
would like to expand a legal nonconforming garage to the north to increase both garage and
livable space within the home at 1820 Skyhigh Drive. The addition would be conforming to
zoning requirements in all ways but for the fact the home was originally built within the front
yard setback in 1952. Staff provided further comment on the request and recommended
approval of the Variance, based on the findings of fact and subject to the following conditions:
1. The applicant shall locate all private utility service lines prior to construction.
2. The applicant shall obtain all necessary permits and approvals from the City and other
applicable entities with jurisdiction prior to any construction.
3. The variance shall expire if a building permit is not applied for within one year from the date
of resolution.
Chair Nichols-Matkaiti thanked staff for the thorough report on variances and the standards that
had to be applied.
Chair Nichols-Matkaiti opened the Public Hearing at 7:36 p.m.
