Preliminary Planned Residential Development
Planning Commission Report; 5-21-19

Page 19
(cont.)

Tom Relling (785 7th Ave NW – voice mail). With regards to how the City and
developer should work together to clean up the end of 7th Avenue, he is supportive of
a hammer-head turn around.
Gabriela Perez (no address given). Feels the proposed development will cause
problems in relation to traffic and parking, crime, and will negatively impact
property values. Wants less new residents.
Erica Lorenz (no address given). Believes the project is fantastic and supports a
mixed income housing project. Wants New Brighton to continue moving forward to
become a leader in the northern suburbs on housing, particularly affordable options.
Peter & Connie Rodosovich (1642 18th Ave NW). Supports the redevelopment of
the old elementary school, the City Council, and the City government in this
endeavor.
Becky Bates (718 10th Ave NW). Is not in favor of the current plan; feels it is too
dense, feels traffic and parking will be a problem, doesn’t like that upgrades to the
sewer system will be needed, believes the buildings are too tall, and is concerned
about the Better Business Bureau ratings of each developer and the use of TIF to
support the development. Believes Assistant Director Gozola lied in claiming TIF
helps taxes to be lowered, and claims the City has too much debt. Doesn’t believe
that two years of comprehensive plan meetings identified housing as a primary
community need, and wants Council to listen primarily to the adjacent neighbors of
this land. Questions the decision to select Dominium and Pulte as builders given
their Better Business Bureau ratings. Believes the City has no interest in citizen
feedback and that any comments asking for changes to the comprehensive plan
guidance will be disregarded.
Ben Jones (631 17th Ave NW). Excited to see the old New Brighton Elementary site
redeveloped, but believes the current concept is too dense. Believes traffic
congestion and the impact on existing infrastructure will change the character of the
neighborhood, and is not supportive of the City utilizing TIF for the project. Would
suggest cutting the number of low income units by 50% and adding more
townhomes. Would like the density to be around 20 to 25 units/acre, and would like
to limit City involvement (financially) in the project.
Becky Brabeck (711 9th Ave NW). Believes the proposal will have parking
problems that will result in nearby local roadways becoming inundated with parked
vehicles, finds the height of the proposed buildings will be an “eyesore,” is
concerned about more traffic and air pollution in the neighborhood, want’s
something to be done about the speed of vehicles on 7th Street, is concerned about
water pressure and cell service reception, and the impact on crime and policing
