14 <br /> <br />Deputy Director Hamdorf, Community Engagement Officer/Deputy Fire Chief <br />Krebsbach, and Deputy Fire Chief Schute attended the 3-day Governor’s Homeland <br />Security and Emergency Management Conference hosted by Minnesota HSEM in <br />Brooklyn Center. <br /> <br /> <br />IX. TRAINING <br /> <br />This section will review the training activities of our Public Safety personnel. <br /> <br />On Tuesday and Thursday, February 5 and 7, all sworn peace officers attended in-service <br />training to maintain POST Board and EMSRB licensure. During the morning, they heard <br />from a trio of mental health professionals from Nystrom & Associates on the topics of <br />suicide and psychosis. The presentation included role-playing exercises on dealing with <br />persons in crisis. In the afternoon, instructors from Allina Health provided EMS <br />continuing education on the use of tourniquets, and how to treat gunshot wounds and <br />traumatic injuries. <br /> <br />A representative from Tubman met with patrol officers to provide information about <br />resources that the organization offers to victims who have experienced relationship <br />violence, elder abuse, addiction, sexual exploitation or other forms of trauma. <br /> <br />On February 25, Firefighters received awareness training from the Minnesota Firefighter <br />Initiative that focuses on firefighter’s health in the areas of cardiac, cancer, and emotional <br />wellness. <br /> <br />On February 26 and February 28, all licensed peace officers participated in the <br />department’s annual inclement weather firearms training session held at the University of <br />Minnesota outdoor range in Rosemount. NBDPS has a long-standing relationship to use <br />the UMPD facilities in exchange for them being allowed to use our indoor range. <br /> <br />Officer Semanko and Officer Sonterre attended Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and <br />Advanced Recognition on Impaired Drivers class. <br /> <br />X. OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE <br /> <br />This section will review the ongoing administrative issues and meetings during the <br />month. This includes meetings, policy issues, ordinance changes, and personnel issues. <br />And, this also includes meetings of a county wide, regional, and/or statewide basis on <br />public safety related issues. <br /> <br />On the afternoon of February 11, Public Safety leadership met with a retired Fridley <br />police detective who now operates his own business conducting pre-employment <br />background investigations for several police, fire, and dispatch agencies in the metro. <br />Due to current police staffing shortages and investigatory resources, Public Safety is <br />going to have him perform the background investigation on its next police officer <br />candidate.
