Nobody was injured in the pursuit. <br /> <br />On March 30, officers responded to an address in the 1900 block of 16th Street NW <br />around 1 pm on an 87-year-old Alzheimer’s patient who had wandered away from home. <br />While enroute, officers located the male walking westbound I-694 at Long Lake Road. <br />He was returned home to his wife. <br /> <br />On March 30, Public Safety responded to its first grass fire of the season. A small grass <br />fire occurred near a residence in The Enclave neighborhood in the 1400 block of Old <br />Highway 8 NW. The fire was extinguished before it endangered any structures. <br /> <br />On March 30, officers observed a suspect with a felony warrant inside a residence on <br />Searles Street. They knocked on the door several times, announcing their presence, and <br />heard him talking to someone inside telling them not to open the door but the occupants <br />refused to answer. Officers attempted entry by several means including calling inside the <br />house by phone before ultimately ramming the door open. A Mounds View Police <br />canine entered the residence on-leash with officers and the suspect was taken into <br />custody in the basement without further incident. The suspect was booked at jail and his <br />parents apologized for not originally answering the door for the police. <br /> <br />II. USE OF FORCE BY POLICE OFFICERS <br /> <br />It is the policy of the New Brighton Department of Public Safety that officers exert no <br />more force than is reasonably necessary in the discharge of their licensed duty, and that <br />the use of deadly force is consistent with the law, training and our general orders. <br /> <br />This section contains summary data of the use of force used by our police officers. A <br />Police Use of Force Report is completed by officers each time force or restraint is used in <br />the performance of their duties. This does not include the use of handcuffs during an <br />arrest or detention situation.
