Twelve over-time funded officers and two volunteer
Reserve Officers produced the following:

• 152 traffic stops
• 11 people taken to jail
• 9 DWI arrests
• 16 drivers cited for DAR/DAS/DAC
• 12 vehicles towed

On July 1, both Officer Sonterre and Officer Kostohryz stopped vehicles for traffic
violations and discovered impaired drivers. Both parties failed field sobriety tests and
were ultimately booked for 3rd Degree DWI.

On July 3, Officer Sonterre stopped a vehicle for lane violations and speed. The driver
showed signs of impairment. The driver consented to and failed field sobriety tests. The
driver agreed to submit a breath sample which revealed a BAC of .31. The driver was
booked on 2nd Degree DWI.

While on routine patrol on July 5 at 5:26 pm, Officer Pyka observed a driver not wearing
their seatbelt. The vehicle was stopped and the driver displayed signs of impairment.
The driver failed to complete field sobriety testing and was taken in to custody. Due to
multiple prior DWI’s, the driver had a license restriction prohibiting the use of alcohol.
The driver refused to provide a sample and was booked for Gross Misdemeanor 3rd
Degree DWI Test Refusal.

Around 3:30 am on July 11, Officer Kostohryz responded to multiple 911 calls of a
possible impaired driver. He observed the driver failing to maintain lane control and
initiated a traffic stop. The driver displayed signs of impairment from a controlled
substance and failed field sobriety tests. A search warrant was written and a blood
sample obtained. The driver was booked for 2nd Degree DWI. While assisting on the
traffic stop, another impaired driver nearly struck Sergeant Sypniewski’s squad while its
emergency lights were activated. That driver smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety
tests. His breath alcohol concentration measured .15 and he was booked at the Ramsey
County Jail for 4th Degree DWI.

Shortly after 2 am on July 12, Officer Kostohryz stopped a driver for traveling
southbound in the northbound lanes of Old Highway 8 SW. The driver showed signs of
impairment and admitted to recent alcohol use but refused field sobriety tests stating,
“I’m in trouble.” The 31-year old Columbia Heights resident was arrested for DWI and
provided an evidentiary breath sample of .24. She was booked at the Ramsey County Jail
for 3rd Degree DWI.
