year old male from Columbia Heights was found behind the wheel of the vehicle. The <br />16 year old looked at Officer Wakasugi and said "What's the big deal, I'm just trying to <br />park". His speech was slurred and he smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages. He <br />eventually admitted to drinking stating that he had consumed "three shots about an hour <br />ago". The 16 year old male failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. He <br />later agreed to a breath test with a result of .15 reported value. The 16 year old had only <br />an instruction permit. He will be charged with DUI, Violation of an Instruction Permit <br />and Open Bottle in a Motor Vehicle. Another juvenile male who had been a passenger <br />was cited for underage consumption of alcohol. Both were later released to parents. CN <br />15000767. <br />Damage to suspect's vehicle <br />On January 17th at about 7:32 pm Officer Riedel was on patrol near Mounds Ave at <br />Silver Lake Rd and observed a southbound 1994 Pontiac SUV turning west on Rice <br />Creek Rd failing to signal a turn. Officer Riedel followed the vehicle and observed it <br />cross the doubled line on Rice Creek Rd. Officer Riedel stopped the vehicle in the 1900 <br />block of 29th Ave NW and identified the driver as Scott Haseltine, 52 years of age from <br />Luck WI. Officer Riedel could detect a strong odor of alcoholic beverages and urine <br />coming from within the vehicle. Mr. Haseltine was unable to locate his driver's license <br />and when he stepped out of the vehicle it was apparent that he had likely urinated. Mr. <br />Haseltine stated that he was on his way to visit a friend. Mr. Haseltine failed field <br />sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. He later submitted to a breath test resulting in <br />a.13 alcohol content. Due to two prior DUI convictions, Mr. Haseltine was booked on <br />the enhanced charges of DUI in the 2nd degree, a gross misdemeanor, and he was served <br />with notice of forfeiture of his vehicle.
