TRAFFIC SAFETY
The following information contains summaries of significant traffic safety and traffic
enforcement incidents during the month.
On January 1St at about 10:11 a.m. Officer DeDominces was on the ramp from Cty Rd E
2 to southbound 35W and observed a vehicle, a 2003 Audi A6, southbound at a high rate
of speed. Lidar indicated that the vehicle was traveling at a speed of about 114 miles per
hour. The vehicle was also making numerous, quick lane changes. Officer DeDominces
initiated a pursuit and the vehicle attempted to flee and caught up to it at 35W and
Highway 280. The vehicle finally stopped at a business in the area of Broadway and
Industrial in Minneapolis. The Minneapolis PD and St. Anthony PD assisted in a felony
stop to remove the two occupants of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle had jumped
into the back seat of the vehicle upon stopping. Both of the occupants were eventually
removed and taken into custody. The driver/suspect, identified as Shawn Violette, 28
years of age from Minneapolis, who tested at a .14 alcohol content on a preliminary
breath test was taken to the Public Safety Center where he began acting very strangely.
He was transported to Regions Hospital due to a belief that he may have ingested an
unknown substance. He was placed in Intensive Care at Regions. The
passenger/suspect, who was identified as Anthony Demarais, 25 years of age from Coon
Rapids, was booked at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center on Aiding and
Abetting Fleeing and Felony DUI. CN 15000024.
On January 2nd at about 7:56 pm Officer Wakasugi observed a 1998 Saturn SL1
westbound in the 2600 block of Mississippi St with no headlights activated. Officer
Wakasugi initiated a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Leona Drive and identified the
driver as Sharron Lynn Weglinski, 74 years of age from Columbia Heights. Ms.
Weglinski had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages and when asked for her driver's
license she handed over a credit card. Ms. Weglinski stated that she had a "few drinks
earlier". Ms. Weglinksi failed field sobriety tests including a preliminary breath test
that resulted in a.132 result. Ms. Weglinski was placed under arrest. A formal breath
test later resulted in a .12 result. Ms. Weglinski has four previous DUI convictions and a
driver's license restriction that any use of alcohol or drugs invalidates her license. Ms.
Weglinski was booked on DUI in the 4th degree and her vehicle will be forfeited. CN
