Area where pedestrian was struck by train
On August 24th at about 5:48 a.m. Officer Farmer and Sgt. Nelson responded to the 800
block of W Cty Rd D on a report of an attempted suicide. A male had been awakened by
his 22 year old girlfriend who had a loaded handgun in her mouth. The female pulled the
trigger but the safety was in the on position. The male was able to wrestle the handgun
away from his girlfriend. The 22 year old female was transported to St. Joseph's
Hospital. She escaped briefly at Region's but was quickly located. CN 15011819.
II. USE OF FORCE BY POLICE OFFICERS
It is the policy of the New Brighton Department of Public Safety that officers exert no
more force than is reasonably necessary in the discharge of their licensed duty, and that
the use of deadly force is consistent with the law, training and our general orders.
This section contains summary data of the use of force used by our police officers. A
Police Use of Force Report is completed by officers each time force or restraint is used in
the performance of their duties. This does not include the use of handcuffs during an
arrest or detention situation. Each Police Use of Force Report is reviewed by patrol
supervisors to ensure compliance with New Brighton's Use of Force Policy.
It is interesting to note that August 2015 is the first month since we began formally
tracking Use of Force reports two decades ago that we had 0 (zero) uses of force.
YEAR
MONTH
YEAR TO DATE
2015
0
21
2014
3
45
2013
5
49
2012
10
41
2011
6
41
