III. TRAFFIC SAFETY <br />The following information contains summaries of significant traffic safety and traffic <br />enforcement incidents during the month. <br />Ramsey County Sheriffs Office hosted the Hi -Viz DWI Saturation on Saturday, August <br />1, 2015 from 8 P.M. to 4 A.M. Eleven overtime funded officers and one volunteer <br />reserve officer focused their efforts in Little Canada in conjunction with the Canadian <br />Days celebration that yielded the following: <br />• 118 traffic stops <br />• 9 people arrested & brought to jail <br />• 8 DWI arrests <br />• 10 drivers cited for DAR or DAS <br />• 6 vehicles towed <br />Notes: Heavy freeway traffic on Hwy 36 and Hwy 694 due to Hwy 94 EB weekend <br />closure. Late night/early morning single vehicle crash on Larpenteur near Mcknight <br />where a sober driver (thought to be texting) took out a power pole causing a major Excel <br />power outage to residents in North St Paul, Maplewood and St Paul. <br />On August 8th at about 3:00 a.m. Officer Riedel responded to Hwy 96 at I 35W on a <br />report of a drunk driver who crashed his vehicle into construction equipment. Upon <br />arrival Officers found that a 1997 Geo Prism had struck paving equipment and that the <br />driver, identified as Kurtis Cornelius, 27 years of age from Minneapolis, appeared to be <br />under the influence. Two hypodermic needles indicating possible use of controlled <br />substances were located. Mr. Cornelius failed field sobriety tests and was placed under <br />arrest. He did later complain of shoulder injuries and was taken to Regions Hospital. He <br />was evaluated and released after giving a blood test. He was booked at the Ramsey <br />County Law Enforcement Center on DUI in the 4th degree, a misdemeanor. CN <br />15011035. <br />
