Mr. Hicks stated that it would be good to get started early next year. It was not <br />possible this past season. KVAAL, MAKING HOURS SIMILAR TO THAT OF HANSEN AND <br />FREEDOM, USE SOFTWARE THAT WILL HELP WITH VOLUNTEER SIGN- <br />UPS AND START THE VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECK PROCESS <br />EARLY. MOTION CARRIED. <br />VII. Trails, Bike and Walk -ways <br />None. <br />VIII. Announcements <br />A. Council Report — Council Member Burg <br />• Council recently attended a volunteer appreciation dinner, April 26. <br />There are hundreds of volunteers in this City who give hundreds of <br />hours in volunteer time. <br />• There was a Council meeting at Applewood Point. <br />• Officer Layton just returned from duty in Kuwait. She wanted to <br />publicly welcome him back. <br />• There is a clean-up day coming up on May 16. There will be a <br />shredding event also. <br />• The New Brighton Exchange Restaurant is adding a patio. <br />• Public Safety is having a blood drive. Only 3% of people give blood <br />and only 1% return. June 24th is the blood drive. <br />• The next Council meeting is May 12 and the topic is urban farming. <br />• Northeast Bank will be going in where the old Sinclair station was. <br />• Regarding the water issue, the City has a lot of information on the <br />website to be updated regularly. The water is safe. <br />B. Chair Updates <br />Chair Frischman showed a power point regarding volunteers, Arbor Day <br />Event, Hansen Park Disc Golf Course and Ribbon Cutting at the New <br />Brighton Community Center. <br />• Deb Thompson, a Parks and Recreation volunteer, receive the <br />Volunteer of the Year Award. <br />• Bel Air school helped with the Arbor Day Tree Planting at Driftwood <br />Park. <br />• Hansen Park Disc Golf Course was voted Best Disc golf Course in <br />2015. <br />• Ribbon Cutting Event for the renovation projects that took place at <br />the New Brighton Community Center. <br />• The Eagles Nest was recognized as one of Minnesota's coolest <br />indoor playgrounds. <br />May 6, 2015 Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission Page 2 <br />
