<br /> <br />this work would not be completed overnight, but would take time. He stated he appreciated <br />the efforts of both the DEI Strategy Team and the Equity Commission. He reviewed the <br />demographic information for the City, noting the percentage of BIPOC members in the <br />community was on the rise. He reported he would continue to work with the Equity <br />Commission going forward while also working on an Equity Strategic Action Plan. He <br />indicated he was also working on DEI focused events and conversations that would raise <br />awareness for staff and residents. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> Mr. Matteson encouraged the City to encourage young people to consider a career in <br />EMS. DEI Coordinator Suggs reported he attends career fairs with other staff <br />members and this information could be passed along. <br /> The goals for DEI Coordinator Suggs first year were discussed, which included <br />building community relationships, addressing fair housing in the community, <br />developing an Equity Strategic Action Plan, and creating a community event that <br />would celebrate the City’s diversity. <br /> The support DEI Coordinator Suggs has for his new position was detailed. <br /> The Commission thanked DEI Coordinator Suggs for his efforts on behalf of the <br />community. <br /> <br />C. Selection of Chair and Vice Chair <br /> <br />Director Paetznick requested the Commission make a recommendation for the appointment <br />of a Chair and Vice Chair of the Public Safety Commission. <br /> <br />Motion by Wagner, seconded by Boyd to recommend the City Council appoint Geoff <br />Hollimon as Chair of the Public Safety Commission. Motion carried 6-0. <br /> <br />Motion by Hollimon, seconded by Winkels to recommend the City Council appoint Karen <br />Wagner as Vice Chair of the Public Safety Commission. Motion carried 6-0. <br /> <br />VI. Reports and Updates <br /> <br />A. Allina Health – Dave Matteson <br /> <br />Dave Mattson provided the Commission with an update from Allina Health. He commented <br />on a major shooting incident that occurred in Roseville last week. He updated the <br />Commission on the new COVID variant noting numbers were still quite low. He reviewed <br />the calls for service and response times for New Brighton for the months of January, <br />February and March. He explained United and Regina in Hastings were merging as one <br />hospital. He stated this week was National Telecommunicators Week which was a week to <br />support all communication centers and dispatchers. He then commented on the uniform <br />changes that would be occurring at Allina, noting EMT’s would now be wearing blue polos <br />instead of white button down shirts. <br /> <br />B. Public Safety Update – Director Paetznick <br /> <br />Director Paetznick stated National Police Week would be held May 11 through May 17 this <br />year.
