20 <br /> <br />3.9 Benefits <br />Privileges granted to qualified employees in the form of paid leave and/or insurance coverage. <br /> <br />3.10 Accrual of Benefits <br />The accumulation and increase of vacation and sick leave over a period of time to be used at a later <br />date. <br /> <br />3.11 Anniversary Date <br />The month and day of an employee’s start date or promotion of an employee. <br /> <br />3.12 Applicant <br />A person seeking a position of employment with the City. <br /> <br />3.13 Classification (Class) <br />A position or group of positions similar in respect to their duties and responsibilities with the same <br />title, grade, and salary range. <br /> <br />3.14 Demotion <br />The movement of an employee to a position having a lower pay or less responsibility than the position <br />previously held. <br /> <br />3.15 Good Standing <br />In order to be considered in good standing, an employee must not be under suspension or given <br />notice of discharge by the City Manager. Employees must also provide their immediate supervisor <br />with the required notification period for resignation or retirement. <br /> <br />3.16 Grievance <br />Where a clarification or interpretation of the City’s personnel handbook is challenged via a <br />formalized process. <br /> <br />3.17 Immediate Family (Revised June 24, 2014Effective January 1, 2024) <br />The definition of immediate family member will includes the employee’s spouse, child, adult child, <br />sibling, parent, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandchild, grandparent, or stepparent (inclusive of <br />biological, adopted, and foster family members). For purposes of Earned Sick and Safe Time use, <br />family members are defined by Minn. Stat. 181.9445and any other family members as defined by <br />Minn. Stat. 181.9413. <br /> <br />3.18 Lay-Off <br />The temporary dismissal of an employee for an unspecified length of time. <br /> <br />3.19 Furlough <br />The placement of an employee in temporary non-duty and non-pay status. <br /> <br />3.20 Municipal Service <br />Employment with the City of New Brighton. <br />
