21 <br />3.21 Overtime <br />Time worked by employees in excess of forty hours in any single work week (applies only to non- <br />exempt employees). <br /> <br />3.22 Pay Range <br />The minimum and maximum rates of pay together with intermediate rates as established for a grade <br />or position. <br /> <br />3.23 Position <br />A specific employment calling for the performance of certain duties and the carrying out of certain <br />responsibilities by an individual. <br /> <br />3.24 Probationary Period <br />A six month or one-year trial period considered as an integral part of the initial selection and <br />examination process of new employee. An employee serving his/hertheir initial probationary period <br />may be disciplined at the sole discretion of the city, up to and including dismissal. An employee so <br />disciplined, including dismissal, will not have any grievance rights. <br /> <br />3.25 Promotion <br />The movement of an employee to a class having a higher pay range or more responsibility than the <br />class previously held. <br /> <br />3.26 Seasonal Employees <br />A person employed by the City for a set period of time during the calendar year. <br /> <br />3.27 Separated from Service <br />An employee who is no longer working for the City due to resignation, retirement, or death. <br /> <br />3.28 Termination <br />A complete separation of an employee from the municipal service as a result of discharge. <br /> <br />3.29 Temporary Employee <br />Employees who work in temporary positions. Temporary jobs might have a defined start and end <br />date or may be for the duration of a specific project. <br /> <br />3.30 Transfer <br />The movement of an employee to a different position with equivalent pay. <br /> <br />3.31 Paid-On-Call Firefighter (Revised November 13, 2012) <br />A person employed and trained by the City to respond to fire calls and medical emergencies. <br /> <br />3.32 Part-Time Employee <br />Employees who are required to work less than forty20 hours on average per week year-round in an <br />ongoing position. Permanent Part-Time Employees are Three-Quarter Time and Half-Time <br />employees that maintain a minimum work schedule as defined in section 12.3 and receive prorated <br />benefits. <br />
