Barr Engineering Company The CONTRACTOR is hereby directed to make the following changes in the Contract Documents: 1. Vermiculite Abatement and Offsite Disposal at 1914th Street NW Description: At the request of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and Minnesota Department of Heath (MDH), CONTRACTOR is directed to abate and dispose vermiculite insulation with trace concentrations of asbestos from the former Darling Rendering Plant building located at 19 14th St. NW. The MPCA has requested that the CONTRACTOR abate bulk vermiculite prior to demolition of the plant's concrete block walls, control emissions during demolition of the walls, and dispose vermiculite and concrete block at an off site disposal facility. Reason for Change: During building demolition, CONTRACTOR identified asbestos containing vermiculite insulation inside concrete block walls. The vermiculite insulation is spaced intermittently throughout the walls and so it was not detected during testing of these walls during the Pre-Demolition Asbestos and Hazardous Materials Survey and Assessment Report included in the Contract Documents. The presence of the vermiculite could not have been reasonably anticipated in the original bid by the Contractor. Change in Contract Price: Abatement of venniculite from the walls, emission control during demolition, and special handling of asbestos.containing wastes shall be compensated at a maximum rate of $29,390.00, including subcontracted charges. Loading, hauling and disposal of concrete and venniculite shall be measured per Ton and shall be paid at a Unit Price of $77 .86. The Contract Price will be increased by an estimated total of$43,015.50 for completion of this work, depending of the actual number oftons disposed. Offsite Disposal of Contaminated Soil from 1201 Old Highway 8 Description: Contaminated soil with elevated organic and metal concentrations was encountered below the floor slab at the former Lange property building 1201 Old Highway 8. CONTRACTOR is directed to load, transport, and dispose these materials at an offsite disposal facility. The estimated quantity of contaminated soil is 3 cubic yards. Reason for Change: Disposal of these items was not known or included in the original scope of work outlined in the Contract Documents. Additional items were discovered below the floor slab during demolition and could not have been anticipated in the original bid by the Contractor. Change in Contract Price: Load, transport and disposal ofthe contaminated soil shall be measured per cubic yard and shall be paid at a Unit Price of $750. The Contract Price will be increased by an estimated total of $2,250.00 for completion ofthis work. Attachments: Proposal from CONTRACTOR and the disposal facility Onyx. Environmental Services.
