Consideration of request to approve 1he 2005 cooperntive Long Lake Water Safety Pilot <br />Project Report No. 05-081 <br /> <br />Director of Parks and Rec:reation, Steve Rymer, gave a brief history of some concems raised by the Long <br />Lake Improvement Association, related to water safety during high use periods. The City Council <br />directed staff to work with representatives from 1he Long Lake Improvement Association, to :find a <br />cooperative solution. Four alternative solutions were presented by staff to Council for consideration. <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Steve Rymer stated that staff agrees that providing for City Water <br />Patrol would be the most effective solution. TIlls solution would provide for 1he LLIA to contnbute <br />$2,500 toward 1he operational costs of a pilot project this summer. The City would contnbute a <br />watercraft to this program. <br />The recommended funding for the purchase ofthe boat was outlines as follows: <br /> <br />Boat <br />75% park dedication funds <br />25% vehicle forfeiture fund <br /> <br />Operations <br />$2500.00 LLIA donation <br />$1500.00 "Change for the Better" and Ace Solid Waste donations <br /> <br />lirector of Public Safety Bob Jacobson stated that Ramsey County Sheriff has indicated <br />ey would be providing the same general patrol coverage as prior years. <br /> <br />Mayor Larson clarified that a CSO, not a sworn Police Officer, would be monitoring the <br />lake, Director of Public Safety Bob Jacobson confim1ed Mayor Larson inquiry as to the <br />watercrafts ability to provide support for Public Safety Department as well as Fire Fighting <br />Division. <br /> <br /> <br />.
