These actions required the
efforts of many people throughout the community and to all of you, I applaud you efforts. A
job well done!

I would like to thank those of you who worked so hard on the Healthy Youth Coalition.
Recognizing that assets are the key to youth development was very important. The City also
became a Community of Promise this past year as well as implementing the formation of the
Intergenerational Task Force. We must continue this effort to address the needs and
concerns of our youth as we plan for tomorrow.

We have tentatively agreed that Ryan Companies will coordinate the Northwest Quadrant
redevelopment. This project will take several years to complete and will require numerous
meetings with property owners and businesses that exist today. Hopefully this transition will
be a win-win for everyone involved. We are currently working with Ramsey County to
procure the Co-op site so that any needed clean-up can take place immediately. A special
thanks to Ramsey County Commissioner Jan Wiessner. Also thanks to Senator Novak,
Representatives Haake and Chaudhary for their efforts in St. Paul. We will continue to work
with you on issues effecting New Brighton.

State of the City
Address - 2000
