He noted that the recommendation will require <br />some ordinance changes and requested staff to prepare the updating. <br /> <br />City Manager Matt Fulton noted that material was distributed at the Open House and <br />many components have already been put into place. <br /> <br />Larson, PPC Council Liaison, thanked Horn and the subcommittee for their <br />outstanding work. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Samuelson, to APPROVE THE PUBLIC <br />POLICY COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION FOR QUALIFICATIONS, <br />MARKETING, AND SELECTION OF MEMBERS TO THE CITY'S <br />ADVISORY COMMISSIONS. <br /> <br />5 Ayes ~ 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Fulton presented the third quarter work plan status report. This document provides a <br />brief summary as to the current status of significant new/specific projects within the <br />City. <br /> <br />Administration Department projects include: Leadership New Brighton October 26 <br />kickoff; Public Safety Visioning survey and analysis; labor negotiations with <br />employee unions; installation of network computer system and employee computer <br />training; new telephone system; On Your Turf activities; and Channel 16 <br />programming. Bench marking activities include the annual community report, and <br />the "In the Neighborhood" newsletter. <br /> <br />Community Development redevelopment projects involve: construction of the <br />Rottland Townhome Development will begin shortly; Village Center Phase II is <br />underway; the streetscape project will be rebid in early 1996; Brighton Corporate <br />Park Phase II and III; completion of Lakeview Business Campus; negotiations with <br />Rice Creek Shopping Center owners; ongoing dialogue regarding MacGillis and <br />Gibbs site remediation; New Brighton Care Center expansion deferred until early <br />next year; and environmental testing on Northwest Quadrant. The Business Retention <br />Survey received 455 completed surveys and many red flags have been researched. <br />The Housing Program is currently discussing a Point of Inspection Program. There <br />have been staffing changes in the Building Inspections Department, and the Fire <br />Marshall position is under evaluation. <br /> <br />Finance projects involved: 5- Year Planning and Annual Budgeting processes; <br />recipient of budgeting award; assisting with Family Service Center (FSC) financial <br />enhancements; municipal code codification; License Bureau enhancements; general <br />election; utility systems; and new federal financial reporting requirements. <br /> <br />Park and Recreation projects involved: getting the FSC on-line; senior <br />enhancements; kitchen improvements; site landscaping; computerization efforts for <br />data cards; possible senior congregate dining program; successful forestry program; <br />summer recreation programs; completion of park maintenance and development <br />projects; and good seasons at the driving range and golf course. <br /> <br />Council Business <br /> <br />Advisory Commission <br />Marketing Plan <br />Report 95-179 <br /> <br />Work Plan Update <br />Report 95-180 <br />
