Council Meeting Minutes
October 11, 1994

Page 2

Special Order of Business. continued

I

The first amendment would require the County Board to maintain a policy of no net
loss on parkland. If the County disposed of real property classified as open space or
parkland. it must obtain other property of comparable location, equivalent amount,
and similar quality as to result in no net loss of parkland. This policy has been
adopted by the Board. The other amendment relates to requirements in the filling of
County Attorney and Sheriff vacancies. Currently, when a vacancy occurs during a
term, the replacement is named by the Board. However. there is no limit to that
length of time a replacement will serve should a vacancy occur shortly after an
election. The amendment would provide that no appointment last more than two
years. The Commission supports both amendments.

Benke confirmed that the amendment instills that park land be placed on a higher
order of use.
