The maximum width of the median areas would be 13
ft., but in many cases it would be less. The original landscape plan showed a
selection of Greenspire Linden trees. Wriskey said this area would create adverse
growing conditions due to the road, sand and salt. He feels the Linden may not
survive and would require maintenance.

Wriskey suggests an off-set planting of larger growing trees such as the Emerald
Lustre Norway Maple. This tree would have a greater resistance to salt, tolerant
heavy soils, and would require less maintenance. The Norway maple would lend
more of an overstory presence than the Linden. A video was shown of Lexington
Avenue where Norway Maples have been installed.

Benke asked if truck traffic on Silver Lake Road could cause damage these growing
trees. Wriskey hopes that damage does not occur while the trees are small, but
possibly the lower speed levels may prevent damage. In about ten years the trees
will be trimmed to prevent overhang. Wriskey noted that a larger diameter Norway
Maple tree could be installed initially. Benke would prefer the purchase of a larger
diameter tree. Wriskey noted that the Norway Maple is not a native tree, but should
be able to withstand the winter climate during those first years.

Wriskey noted reservations regarding the original landscape plan and felt that
maintenance issues relating to the original plan would have created real problems.

Williams feels the Norway Maple is the perfect choice for the shorter median.

Motion by Williams, seconded by Samuelson, to AMEND THE SILVER LAKE
ROAD MEDIAN LANDSCAPE PLANS TO SPECIFY EMERALD LUSTRE
NORWAY MAPLE AS THE OVERSTORY TREE.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried.

Fulton presented the proposed dates for the 1995 Annual Town Hall Meeting.

With the Family Service Center opening, the City would like to hold future Town
Hall Meetings in that facility. The suggested dates for the 1995 Town Hall Meeting
are: March 25, April I, or April 8. After a short discussion, Benke suggested that
Saturday, April 8, 1995, be chosen as the 1995 Town Hall Meeting date.

Motion by Benke, seconded by Larson, to SET SATURDAY, APRIL 8, 1995; AS
TIlE DATE FOR THE 1995 ANNUAL TOWN HALL MEETING TO BE
HELD AT mE FAMILY SERVICE CENTER.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried.

Assistant to the City Manager, Barbara J eanetta, presented the report detailing the
reorganization of the City's advisory commissions.

Jeanetta explained the review process and introduced the revised set of
recommendations.

Council Business

Silver Lake Road
Landscape Plan
Report 94-223

Town Hall Meeting
Report 94-224

Advisory Committee
Reorganization
Report 94...225
