I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
June 9, 1992

Page 6

Public Hearina. continued

There were no comments from the audience.

Motion by Rebelein, seconded by Larson, to CLOSE THE HEARING.

4 Ayes. 0 Nayes, Motion Carried.

Hearing was closed at 9:00 p.m.

Motion by Rebelein, seconded by Larson, to WAIVE THE READING AND
ADOPT THE RESOLUTION ACCEPTING PROJECT 92-2, OAKWOOD DRIVE
STORM SEWER WITH MODIFICATIONS AS EXPLAINED IN OPTION A
WITH MAXIMUM ASSESSMENT OF $500 AND MINIMUM ASSESSMENT
OF $202.43; WITH THE EXCEPTION OF $2,177.40 FOR THE
TOWNHOUSE ASSESSMENT.

4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried.

Fire Chief Mark Frieden presented bids received for the fire pumper.

If the 1969 pumper was used as a trade.in, Custom Fire's bid is the lowest
at $225,480. However, General Safety Equipment's bid includes trade-in
value of $12,500, and is only $1,700 higher than the Custom bid.

It is felt the 1969 pumper could be sold for at least $20,000. If the bid
was awarded without a trade, the General bid is the lowest at $239,680.
If the pumper was sold for $20,000, the net cost is $219,680, a savings of
$5,800 over Custom's bid. If the City gets more than $14,200 for the
pumper, it is to our advantage to sell it ourselves.

The costs are included in the Five Year Plan and Annual Budget. The
purchase is exempt from the new sales tax, but if the tax had applied, it
would have added $15,600 to the cost. Delivery is expected Spring 1993.

The City's other two pumpers were purchased from General, and staff
spoke to other cities who have purchased similar pumpers and found them
to be pleased with the pumper's performance.

Larson said a resident whose home recently received major fire damage,
praised the efforts of the New Brighton Fire Department.

Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Rebelein, AWARD THE BID FOR A
NEW FIRE PUMPER TO GENERAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT FOR $239,680
WHICH WILL NOT INCLUDE THE TRADE-IN OF THE 1969 PUMPER; AND
AUTHORIZE THE SALE OF THE 1969 PUMPER BY THE CITY AT SUCH
TIME AS THE NEW PUMPER IS DELIVERED.

4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried.

Childs presented a proposal to retain a consultant to evaluate the Ramsey
County's proposal to upgrade Silver Lake Road.

Public Hearina

Storm Sewer
Improvement .
Oakwood Drive
Report 92.136
Resolution 92-061
Resolution 92-062

Council Business

Purchase of Fire
Pumper Vehicle
Report 92-137
Resolution 92-063

Evaluation of Silver
Lake Road
Reconstruction
Report 92-138
