<br />There was a request to amend the 1998 Comprehensive Plan in regard to a <br />Midwest Asphalt request. Because of Midwest Asphalt's proximity to Long Lake <br />Park and Applewood Pointe, the decision to amend the Comprehensive Plan was . <br />denied. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hoffman was happy to report that Phase I of the NW Quadrant <br />was completed; however, we were over budget. <br /> <br />Greacen expressed his gratitude to the Council for denying Midwest Asphalt's <br />request because of environmental concerns. <br /> <br />V. Public Hearing <br /> <br />A. None scheduled <br /> <br />VI. New Business <br /> <br />A. Family Service Center lease space - update <br />Sandy Breuer gave history regarding the loss of Family Academy who was leasing <br />15,000 square feet of space at the Family Service Center. Family Academy has <br />filed for bankruptcy. All materials have been removed. We are doing painting, <br />cleaning and general maintenance in the rooms. A power point presentation was <br />used to inform the Commission what has happened and where we are now. <br /> <br />After learning that the space does not have to be leased to a non-profit . <br />organization (as originally thought), we started to pursue all options such as <br />colleges and day cares. Weare in the process of creating a Request for Proposal. <br />We have had numerous calls and several interested in tours. Several seem <br />promIsmg. <br /> <br />Greacen commented that the Parks and Recreation Department has shown <br />tremendous forethought and has represented the City well in how you are going <br />about getting the space occupied. No stone has been left unturned. <br /> <br />Jaskowiak and Knuth were inquiring about who created the RFP criteri~ how <br />much was the lease, was there rent owed when they left, and will that leave a hole <br />ill our revenue. <br /> <br />Breuer said staff developed the criteri~ the lease was $250,000, there was money <br />owed when they left and yes, this leaves a hole where we should have had revenue <br />commg m. <br /> <br />VII. Announcements <br />A. Department Happenings <br />Breuer found that announcements were getting longer and longer.
