Dick Dornbusch, Ramsey County Sheriff Department, said the pilot <br />program began January, 1990, and involved six elementary schools. <br />The pil ot program has been completed and the Mounds Vi ew School <br />District is presently compiling the study data. <br /> <br />The first year of the program, August 1, 1990 to July 31, 1991, will <br />involve 34 elementary schools located in three school districts. <br />Three middle schools, Highview, Chippewa and Edgewood, have been <br />added to the program. <br /> <br />Ramsey County has confirmed a need for $318,000 to fund the 1990-91 <br />school year. The program has applied for a grant from the St. Paul <br />Foundation and will know its outcome in November. In addition, the <br />program has raised $50,000 in donations. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Brandt Rebelein asked at what time will Council need to appoint city <br />representatives to the joint committee. Dornbusch said members <br />should be appointed after approval of the joint agreement. The <br />intent is to appoint school district and law enforcement <br />representatives who are currently involved in the DARE Program. <br /> <br />Fran Breslin, New Brighton Rotary Club, said several Ramsey County <br />Rotary Clubs will begin fundraising from other corporate sponsors <br />and have set a goal of $54,000. The North Suburban Community <br />Foundation will administer the funds. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Williams, to AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR <br />AND CITY MANAGER ON BEHALF OF NEW BRIGHTON TO ENTER INTO AN <br />AGREEMENT ESTABLISHING A RAMSEY COUNTY DRUG EDUCATION PROGRAM. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />Kevin Locke, Community Development Director, <br />consideration the downtown redevelopment schedule. <br /> <br />presented <br /> <br />At the July 24th Council Meeting, the downtown redevelopment plan <br />was approved and staff was directed to begin negotiations on a <br />development agreement with Larry Laukka for the residential project. <br />Staff met with Laukka and prepared a schedule for Council approval. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />Locke reviewed the four stages of the schedule. Project activity <br />begins in August 1990 with completion sometime in December 1992. <br /> <br />Benke said the schedule appears realistic, but is somewhat <br />disappointing in its completion date.
