I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
June 11, 1990

Page 5

Council Business, continued

Although a public hearing was not required, neighborhood residents
located east of the center were informed by staff of the proposed
curb cut and the June 11th meeting.

A resident suggested that the curb cut be posted IIIn Only.1I

A resident noted that Friday afternoons and Saturdays illustrate the
traffi c problems caused by many cars dri vi ng south thorough the
residential area of Pike Lake Drive and entering the center from the
east.

A resident suggested angling the curb cut to prevent people from
exiting left out of the center.

Henry Larson, 1267 Pike Lake Drive, adamantly opposed a fourth curb
cut. Mr. Larson noted the continual traffic increase on residential
streets si nce the constructi on of the bank and the center. The
traffic problems have caused frustration and inconvenience to the
residents.

Brandt Rebe1ein noted the need to reconstruct the southwest corner
and provi de wi der and safer turn 1 anes. She also suggested the
installation of reflective mirrors to improve visibility.

Phil Goodrich, 1129 Pike Lake Drive, is against the fourth curb cut
and feels it is Kraus Anderson I s responsi bil i ty to resolve the
difficult traffic situation which was created many years ago.

A resident noted the bottleneck problems at the southwest corner
intersection which tend to worsen in the winter.

Benke feels redesigning the surrounding area may provide the needed
access and avoid the need for a curb cut. Benke reinforced Kraus
Anderson1s long standing responsibilities to provide a creative
solution to the problem.

Larson suggested installing a radius island which would travel
around the southwest corner 'with a one lane/one-way entrance. Mr.
Linke had considered this but found inadequate space for turn lanes
and clearance. Brandt Rebelein feels Larson1s idea is feasible and
suggested the inclusion of the adjacent City-owned right-of-way.

Howard Petrie, 1171 Pike Lake Drive, said closing the south end of
Pike Lake Drive would not be feasible.

Gunderman feels the restaurant is a welcome addition to the center,
but is strongly against a fourth curb cut. He agrees that Larson's
suggestion is very viable and should be researched.

Council Business

Brighton Village
Proposed Curb Cut
Report 90-128
