The existing surface
is extensively cracked and bumpy from traffic, weather, and
patching.

All existing streets lack curbing, except Rainbow Lane which has
bi tumi nous curbi ng but is in poor conditi on. Many of the streets
lack the proper drainage which contributed to the surface
deterioration and caused slippery winter conditions.

The project consists of street reconstruction with storm sewer,
barrier-type concrete curb and gutter, and a 7-ton design bituminous
surface. All streets will be constructed to the standard 32 foot
width and would accommodate pn-street parking on both sides. No new
right-of-way is needed for the project, and a contingency plan is
included for transplanting or purchase of new trees and bushes.

The radii on the large intersection at Cedar Drive and 17th Avenue
and Sunnyside Terrace and 17th Avenue would be decreased. The west
Valley View Lane cul-de-sac would be eliminated and the east cul-de-
sac would be widened and the center island will remain.

A small parking lot is proposed east of 14th Avenue and 25th Street
NW on the street right-of-way adjacent to Irondale's public tennis
courts. The cost of the parking lot will be borne by the City.

Public Hearing

Sunnyside Area Street
Reconstruction Project
Report 90-129
Resolution 90-49
