I Council Meeting Minutes
May 22, 1990
Counci 1 Business, continued

Page 4

The Armstrong Rigging operation which presently occupies a portion
of the site is proposed to be relocated to allow for the Remmele
facil i ty.

Larry Griffith of Dorsey and Whitney said Remmele is seeking Council
approval in order to make a commitment to acquire the property.

Tom Dolezal, Vice-President, explained that Remmele is an
engineering and high tech machining company which designs and builds
automation equipment and produces precision machined parts. It
employs 450 people and operates four plants located in St. Paul and
Big Lake, and a future facility is under construction in Monticello.

The New Brighton facility will employ 100 people; 85 on day shift
and 15 on night shift. The operation generates an average of 8
truck trips per day and does not produce excessive noise, odor, or
exterior storage.

I

Ed Vogt, Vogt Architects, said a proposed berm and deciduous plants
would screen the building from the single family homes to the north.
A coniferous screen is proposed along the west property line and
addi ti ona 1 trees woul d be planted along the north wall of the
building to break-up the 270 foot long wall. The portion of Rice
Creek drainage ditch that runs along the property front would be
landscaped.

The proposed parking lot exceeds City standards for stall and aisle
dimensions. Two drive entries from County Road E and one from Old
Highway 8 are proposed, however, the Old Highway 8 drive would
primarily be used for loading and unloading in the dock area. The
proposed construction drive would be used only occasionally,
therefore, the gravel surface appears adequate.

There was some discussion on the proximity of the easterly drive on
County Road E across from Wedgewood Court. Proper noted that the
100 foot separation between Wedgewood Court and the easterly drive
appears to be sufficient and site distance appears safe.

Proper added that possible site problems may occur at 12th Avenue
and the westerly drive coming out of Remmele. The proposed
landscaping and signage will need to be pulled back to accommodate
site distances from this driveway.

I

Williams noted that the curves on County Road E get very slippery
during the winter, and feels relocating the east driveway further
west may alleviate the problems along the "s" curve.

Council Business

Site Plan Approval for
Remmele Engineering
Report 90-114
