I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
March 28, 1989

Page 10

Pub;ic Hearing, continued

Benke suggested an ipvestigation should be performed to evaluate a
structure which would alleviate the drainage problem. Larson
suggested making a cut into a grassy area of the lot to provide for
drainage away from the beach.

Benke noted that several residents favor the 32 foot width streets
because of emergency accessability. In regards to parking bans,
Benke questioned the possibility of problems which may arise.

Gunderman asked what the price difference is between a 24 foot and
a 32 foot wide street. Proper verified that the difference would
relate to an amount of $38,000. Gunderman made comment to the
possible safety problems related to a 24 foot wide street. Proper
acknowledged that all of the project streets have a low volume of
traffic, but a 32 foot width street may be safer.

Benke suggested a further investigation is needed into the skewing
of 14th Street. Proper and staff will present options on this issue
at the next meeting.

Williams feels the skewing of 14th Street may lessen the impact to
property owners. Proper acknowledged that a skew may be workable,
and an added feature to the skew would be a more visible
intersection.

Williams feels the need for a 32 foot wide street on 13th street is
unfounded. The surrounding streets are 24 foot wide and 13th Street
only serves a limited number of people.

Brandt suggested assigning parking to the side which has the
smallest amount of driveways and is without mailboxes.

Benke noted that Council has agreed to keep 13th Street 24 foot wide
with parking banned on the north side. But, Benke prefers further
discussion on the issue of street widths and would support a plan
for 32 foot wide sections on other streets.

A resident asked if Council would accept petitions presented at the
next public hearing. The Council would prefer to review petitions
before the next public hearing. Williams suggested that petitions
be explanatory to help assist Council in making decisions.

Benke noted that Proper will meet with residents who have special
concerns.

Public hearing

Long Lake Area Street
Improvement project
Report 89-84
