I

I

I

Counci 1 Meeti
November 22,

Page 4

continued

There are so e boulevard width restrictions on Second Street NW
along the two residences, which is caused by fences and full grown
trees. The mobilehome area has ample room for walkways, but the
commercial di trict has many curb cuts and parking lots with a narrow
boulevard.
The bridge ov r the railroad tracks is a possible problem for the
bike lane whi h would involve the biker to stop for traffic; and the
grass triangl near the Eagle's Club has possibility for landscaping
with flowers r bushes.

To allow for bike lane in the downtown area, a recommendation is
made to prohi it street parking in this area. The City Hall and
the developme t of Veteran's Park would provide an added amenity
for walkways nd bike trails with benches installed.

Long Lake Park is an important destination point, as well as, an
opportunity t make connections into the park with walk and bicycle
trails. Rams y County has some future plans for the area along Rush
Lake; with a suggestion of a possible overlook along the steep
slopes by Rus Lake. Adjoining communities have discussed a bike
trail along T unk Highway.

A slide pres ntation was made to further explain the proposed
improvements.

The County Ro d E proposal involves Silver Lake Road to Highway 8.
A walkway sys em with a six foot boulevard and five foot concrete
sidewalk woul be installed along the North side of County Road E.
The wooden ar a on the west of Brentwood Drive does have ample rOom
for a wa 1 kwa , but some cl eari ng of the wooden area woul d be
involved. Ha son Park, which has a steep slope with a wooden area,
would require the sidewalk be put adjacent to the street without a
boulevard.

Brandt asked hat the relative cost of surfacing the County Road E
walkway in b tuminous versus concrete, in light of the possible
resurfacing b the County. Brandt also acknowledged the excellent
teamwork betw en the City Park Department and the Ramsey County Park
Department in the project; and questioned a walkway being installed
in front of t e homes along County Road E.

Gunderman ask d Proper the timing schedule of this project. Proper
acknowledged, this project is very complicated and guessed the next
Council prese tation to be in Spring, 1989. Gunderman expressed his
concern on t e amount of detail involved in a project as large as
this.

Cou nc il Bus i ness

Greenway and Sidewalk
Plan Presentation
Report 88-331
