SP-49
P. 2
The I-1 district allows "manufacture, compounding, assembly or treat-
ment of particles or merchandise from...aluminum...plastic...etc.
"under the provisions of Section 9-030 paragraph b. However, the
manufacture of "metal and metal products" is a permitted use in the
I-2 zoning district. (See Section 9-060 paragraph o. New Brighton
Zoning Code.)
While the Zoning Code does not specifically define this particular
proposed use as a "permitted use" in the I-1 zone, it appears that
the use would be appropriate to this area. The planned facility would
provide a 36,000 square foot manufacturing and office complex that
would'be an asset to the community. The proposed plant would employ
about 75 persons.
PLANNING COMMISSION CONSIDERATIONS: April 17, 1973
Mr. Virg Paulson appeared representing the petitioner. He explained
that they are a job shop manufacturing parts from plans provided by
contracting firms such as Honeywell, Control Data et al. He explained
that these parts are part of operational, not manufacturing systems..
He stated that they do not use punch presses and that their work with
steel is confined to bar stock.
Daniels stated that the operation described does not seem significantly
different from those described in Section 9-030. He stated that he
felt this list was intended as a general guide rather than as a list
of specific permitted uses.
PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDAZ20NS: April 17, 1973
Motion by Bohling, seconded by Mann to recommend approval of Sp.49
Motion carried 4-0
ADMINISTRATIVE DIDCUSSION
The administration has no comments regarding the special use permit.
Comments are included with regard to the building permit.
