Mattila said on September 14, 1988, the Environmental <br />Quality Commission reviewed the request at a public hearing, and the <br />public did not express any opposition. <br /> <br />Being no comments from the applicant. <br /> <br />Motion by Larson, seconded by Brandt to WAIVE THE READING AND ADOPT <br />THE RESOLUTION APPROVING SP-135 TO BELL POLE AND LUMBER COMPANY <br />UNTIL JANUARY 1, 1990 UPON CONDITION OF MINNESOTA POLLUTION CONTROL <br />AGENCY EXTENDING THE PERMIT AS WELL. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />Mattila introduced Mr. Glen Carlson, Minnesota Department of <br />Transportati on, Traffi c Management Center, who wi 11 gi ve a <br />presentation of the ramp meters which will be installed on the ramps <br />of 35W and 1-694. <br /> <br />Benke welcomed Mr. Carlson and explained he formerly worked with him <br />at the Traffic Management Center. <br /> <br />Mr. Carlson explained ramp metering is used to regulate the <br />downstream demand and prevent shock waves from occurri ng on the <br />freeway and to smooth out the merge onto the freeway. Currently, <br />there are 65 meters and an additional 42 meters will be added on 1- <br />94, 1-694, and 35W and 18 meters added on 1-494. <br /> <br />Mr. Carlson showed several slides illustrating different freeway <br />ramp metering systems. <br /> <br />Mr. Rich Lowe, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Traffic <br />Management Center, explained the ramps which will be metered on 1- <br />694 will be at Long Lake Road, Silver Lake Road and South bound 35W <br />West Bound traffic.
