I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
May 10, 1988

John Myslajek, 1820 Long Lake Road, had carpooled in that neigh-
borhood and found that particular intersection extremely diffi-
cult; and believes the fact there is not a sign there currently is
nota reason one should not be installed (if one is put in place,
people would get used to it).

Benke stated that if something would happen with stop signs on
Eighth Street, there could be a lawsuit because it is not a nat-
ural setting for signs.

A neighbor expressed concern about children crossing the corner
during the rush hour to catch school bus.

Brandtasked if the bus route could be changed or if the children
could wait until the school bus arrives and extends its IIstop"
sign before crossing the street.

The neighbor indicated the route cannot change because 11th Avenue
is a dead end street.

Proper encouraged the children to cross at the crest of the road
where they have vision in all directions.

Williams believes there is a special kind of problem when we have
to direct children not to cross at a corner; believes we need to
see what might be done to make it a safe intersection (engineering
problem) and hopes we have a remedy before someone gets hurt
there.

In response to Benke's question, Putnam indicated about 12 pedes-
trians cross the street at this particular intersection; Benke
believes there may be a need for a IIpedestrian crossing.1I

Gunderman would like to postpone a decision for two weeks to give
him a chance to look at the intersection during peak hours.

Motion by Larson, seconded by Williams, to CONTINUE CONSIDERATION
OF A FOUR-WAY STOP SIGN AT THE EIGHTH STREET N.W.fl1TH AVENUE N.W.
INTERSECTION FOR TWO WEEKS PENDING FURTHER MONITORING BY POLICE
DEPARTMENT AND REMEDIAL ACTION OPTIONS FROM STAFF.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Krueger briefly reviewed staff report for just compensation for
four properties in Tax Increment Financing District No. 14.

In response to Gunderman1s inquiry about relocation costs, Krueger
indicated relocations are based on Federal guidelines. Krueger
further stated the city uses a relocation consultant to work with
the homeowners, and noted the city will not know final dollar
amounts until the homeowners have actually moved.

Page 3

Compensation/pur-
chase-Golden Pond,
TIF Dist. 14
Report 88-144
Resolution 88-48
