<br />e <br /> <br />EXTRACT FROM MINUTES <br />NEW BRIGHTON PLANNING COMMISSION <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />AUGUST 17, 1982 <br />7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />SP-105, MINNESOTA TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM <br /> <br />SP-105 <br />7:35 P.M. - <br />8:40 P.M. <br /> <br />Chairman Williams opened the public hearing. <br /> <br />Gayle Bromander, applicant briefly reviewed the proposal to <br />create a living history museum. <br /> <br />f <br />p <br />, <br /> <br />Bill Graham, Executive Vice President of the MTM discussed the <br />model of the site. He noted that the maintenance building <br />would be used for restoration of the vintage trains. He stated <br />that the long storage bUilding would house the restored trains <br />and protect them from the weather. The proposal is to build the <br />storage building and relocate the depot first. The MTM planned <br />to pay for future site improvements, from excursions scheduled <br />two to three times a month during the summer. He noted that the <br />MTM would have to be out of their Como shops by August 31, 1982 <br />and the equipment would be taken to the arsenal for storage. <br /> <br />Commissioner Knuth inquired if the Board had a preference con- <br />'cerning the sites under consideration. <br /> <br />Mr. Graham stated that all the sites had certain assets and that <br />availability in the immediate future was a key factor. <br /> <br />e Chairman Williams commented that the Planning Commission had voiced <br />a concern in the past about the site only being for maintenance <br />and not being educational~ <br /> <br />Mr. Graham indicated that as funds were available the other <br />building would be built. <br /> <br />Chairman Williams with the consent of the Commission received for <br />the official record a letter from the MTM, Bill Graham, explaining <br />their proposal, dated August 17, 1982. <br /> <br />Paul Grossman of the Twin Cities Model Train Club expressed his <br />support for the public and the interest of his club to be a <br />part of the site. <br /> <br />Les Formell, an architect for the applicant, reviewed the preliminary <br />sketch prepared for the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />Commissioner Knuth voiced a concern over the access drive and that <br />the unattractive portions of the site are the first viewed by the <br />public. <br /> <br />Commissioner Knuth noted that the proposed driveway was not a <br />through driveway from the park to the other industrial areas. <br /> <br />e <br />
