I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
February 24, 1987

Benke asked if one of the two proposed trees on the boulevard
west of the Fire Station would be in the driveway; Anderson
stated he did not believe so, and indicated both he and the
architect would like to break up the front of the mass of brick
with greenery, but Bauer objects to the trees because of the loss
of parking spaces and the loss of visibility to the north.

In response to Williams's question~ Bauer indicated the three
parking spaces are used for the first responders and the elimina-
tion of any of those three spaces would greatly hinder response
time.

Gunderman asked about planting low greenery as a compromise to
service (number one) and beauty (number two); Bauer indicated
some plantings could be placed on the north side of the building
on the slope. Anderson explained this would be a similar situa-
tion to the parking lot; a decision could be made a year or two
from now, if some agreement could not be reached at this time.

Benke asked about the coordination of the installation of the
lighting and the plantings in the Fire Station's parking lot;
Anderson stated the wiring comes in close to the curb line, which
would not interfer with the plantings.

In response to Benke's question, Anderson stated he would like to
have work started in April.

Motion by Schmidt, seconded by Williams, to APPROVE THE LANDSCAPE
PLAN FOR CITY HALL AND FIRE STATION AND DIRECT STAFF TO IMPLEMENT
THE PLAN IN 1987.

Benke asked for ongoing review and discussion; Brandt asked for
continuing evaluation of the lighting of both lots.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Bauer had nothing to add to the staff report concerning final
payment on the fire pumper; stated he picked up the truck on
February 7, 1987; all firefighters will have training on the
truck before it is put into service; and, because the truck is
well-constructed and has a stainless steel chassis, it will be a
20-year truck.

In response 0 Benke's question, Bauer indicated his crews have
been comparing the truck versus specifications and are~ in fact,
having someone from Laverne Fire Apparatus come out tomorrow to
exam a few items that did not test out.

Regarding the change-order, Gunderman asked why diesel fuel is
more advantageous over gasoline; Bauer indicated it is better to
have two tanks of the same fuel so the firefighters are not con-
fused during an emergency situation.

Motion by Williams, seconded by Brandt, to WAIVE THE READING AND
ADOPT A RESOLUTION APPROVING FINAL PAYMENT ON THE FIRE PUMPER.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Page Five

Fire Pumper:
Final Payment
Report 87-58
Resolution 87-23
