-2-
for beer cans, broken liquor bottles, burned out logs, paper and other debris
left by ice fishermen.
We have not asked for assistance, financial or otherwise, from the city for
this, but all people using the lake have benefited from this.. There, were times
is the past when a car, a snowmobile or a motorcycle had gone through .the ice.
Members of the group were asked to .help and Did Help! The association has
been helpful to many people in the past years and has .concerned itself with
only the safe use of Long Lake and maintaining the quality of this great
natural resource, LONG LAKE.
The group now consists of 150 families. The members live on or near. the lake.
The association opens its membership to any person or families that share its
concern.
You were recently introduced to the L.L.I.A. as a lobby group. Again, the
contact was"misunderstood. It is our intent here .tonight to express our
concerns and anxieties with respect to the proposed park. The association
is truly in favor of a park. However, we do not necessarily agree with the
proposed extensive development of the park for the reasons noted in this
letter.
As we get closer to the final c~eti~ss~an making process on the park, the
association has asked certain pertinent questions of .the city, the county,
the planning commission, the council and other people involved in the park
planning process. To this date, we feel many of these important questions
have gone unanswered for various reasons, including, people don't want us
to know and perhaps the various groups involved may not have had the answers
themselves.
Our position statement is a statement of concerns as it relates to the park
development:.
A. City Park
We have asked why the park cannot become a city park only. We
feel .this is an option that should be-explored and a reasonable
explanation. provided.
