October 7, 1.981 Park Board Minutes gage 4 Carlson asked what would. happen if the School District would not provide space. Anderson said they could operate out of another building, possibly a church or terminate the program. Carlson asked if the School. District would still license them. Anderson said hopefully yes Anderson said his first thought was that he wouldn't want to start something if it'couldn''t be finished but that is not how the. parent group feels. They want to go ahead. Van Hatten asked how many are on staff. Anderson said one. If class size increases we may have to-hire and aide. Van Hatten asked if staff people are readily available. Are you still taking people in, Anderson said yes staff people are available and we have a flyer pre- pared and ready to go out after the Council approves. Would be sur- prised if we increased to 15. Van Hatten asked what.-the hours are. Anderson said 6:45am-8:30am or 8:45 am and 3:OOpm-6:OOpm Schmidt asked if it is educational. Anderson said it is custodial. Main emphasis is on being supervised. They play games, make popcorn, go to the park, etc. There is a teacher who is coordinator. now-but the structure of the program de- pends on who is hired. Can't say it's more educational than recrea- tional. Depends on the background of the person hired... Van Hatten asked if there was a hold over in hours. Does she work during the day. Anderson said no. Just mornings and afternoons, about 6 hours per day. Motion by Van. Hatten, seconded by Carlson, to continue the. Day Care program for this year-and to explore future options.. Motion passed.
