October 7, 1981 Park Board Minutes
Page- 6
correcting the lake algae problem. The population in snowmobiles,
boats, etc. has increased. The group has assisted with enforcing
snowmobile regulations, etc. and has acted as clean up crew on
the. lake. The group is concerned with the safe use of Long Lake.
and maintaining the quality of the lake.
It is the associations intent to express their concerns and
anxieties with respect to the proposed park. The association
is truly in favor of the park.- However, it does not necessarily
agree with the proposed extensive development of he park for the
reasons noted in the letter.
The association has asked pertinent questions to the City, County
and Commissions and other people involved in the planning, but
these questions have gone .unanswered for various reasons, including
people do not want us to know and maybe the groups did not have
the answers themselves,
Our position statement is one of concern and relates to park develop-
ment:
A. City Park - this option should be explored.
B. Development - The 1976 park survey results. should have been
incorporated into the plan.
C. Security - there have been an increase of losses, concerned
with the problem.
D. Lake watercraft proposed laun.ehing area and suggested. canoe
rental facility will increase the number of watercraft during
the summer. This. problem should be addressed when considering
these. facilities.
Motion by Dahl, seconded by Carlson, to .accept. the letter. .Motion
.passed.
Dahl asked Commers if she actually meant the Planning Commission
when she referred to them checking into things or if she meant
the Park Board.
Commers responded whoever was involved in planning the park.
Schmidt said he was-also confused by the term Planning Commission.
Johnson said each time she referred to the Planning Commission,
the Park Boar-d or appropriate advisory board should be inserted.
Schmidt said the Planning Commission is not involved in the park
planning.
Gunderman asked Commers to explain the "people don't want us to
know" clause.
Commers said the letter represents others besides herself. They
are not getting answers. Have asked at board or commission meetings
and always been told will get back to you - never did,.
